Lyazzat Khanim (b.1994) is a visual artist and designer from Kazakhstan. She graduated from the Parsons School of Design. Khanim is based in Almaty. She works in the medium of contemporary oil painting. Khanim’s photorealistic artwork, with the occasional venture into the surreal, concentrates on the simplicity and complexity of everyday environments. Her work depicts striking and thought-provoking glimpses of simple objects that suddenly seem to escape the usual flow, which causes an immediate fascination and is followed by feelings of calm and immersion. In her work, Khanim primarily focuses on documenting and addressing such themes as universality and consumerism by turning her personal experiences toward the public dimension, and vice versa. Her works are included in private and public collections in Kazakhstan, the USA, Austria, and Germany. Khanim participated in such significant exhibitions as Here. There. Nowhere at the Tselinny Center for Contemporary Culture, Kazakhstan All the Time at the Jeonbuk Museum of Art, among many others. As an artistic director, she leads multiple projects that focus on ecology, sustainability, and environmental justice to raise awareness and build a community. Khanim is a founder of the eco-friendly gender-neutral brand 5:45 AM. She is also part of the Artcom Platform community.
